A long-time vegan guru changes from fatophobic to favoring saturated fat!

.

Plant Oils Are Not a Healthy Alternative to Saturated Fat
By T. Colin Campbell, PhD July 21, 2016

My take on Dr. TCC's change of opinion about saturated fat:  I think his claims of expertise and consistency in terms of understanding the effects of various fats are not true, and it can be very easily checked by looking at his academic papers, popular publications and articles. He has always been the low fat exclusively plant-based diet promoter discouraging his followers against consuming any kinds of fats, especially dairy and animal fat. I would not be surprised if we shall soon witness a similar complete re-evaluation of his anti-animal protein beliefs as well, by himself or his colleagues.

In the last 15 years I have been warning many professional low fat vegan diet promoters on various forums, to bail out of their belief system earlier while they still could, rather than later. Not only to prevent hurting their  followers but also to minimize the damage to their own professional careers. The best time of jumping the sinking ship of low fat vegetarianism was a few years ago before it begun getting discredited rather than now when it is sinking like a boat anchor.

It is too late for Dr. TCC and others. He appeared to have sacrificed the truth about fats for short term career benefits in the past several decades of his work and now all that is coming back to bite him. However, all the pseudo-scientific anti-fat vegan garbage that various gurus have been spewing out in the mass media, on-line websites and in printed popular literature over the years is out there for all to re-read and ponder... - It cannot be undone!

We'll see where this goes. I doubt he changes his stance much at this point. I remember reading Campbell, McDougall, Fuhrman, etc, back in my early days. One doesn't need to know anything about nutrition to see which people are good sources for information and understanding. Masterjohn, for example, writes and argues in the proper scientific manner. The others are the type of "scientist" who isn't concerned with discovery; they're concerned only with conversion.

Agree. I too have been watching them for a long time and am not holding my breath expecting them to suddenly embrace the scientific method. It is also true that they behave more like convert-seeking preachers rather than truth-seeking scientists. However this time their godforsaken church of veganism is truly on fire and they probably realized by now that they have no choice but run and regroup, hoping that some of their followers may still follow them.

Karl Popper emphasized over and over again that scientific theories should always be subject to falsifiability and we should always keep up efforts to disprove our own theories,

That was science as he saw it and its pretty much agreed upon as a standard of scientific method today.

That said we have to look at the evidence on the side of the vegans.A plant based diet does reduce blood glucose and blood pressure.I can tell you that from personal experience.

A plant based diet also reduces IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor 1)which has mixed results. It reduces muscle development which is why vegans all look so thin and underdeveloped.

Just look at the southeast Asians before the westernization of their traditional rice diets. They were thin and underdeveloped by our standards. The benefit of lower IGF-1 is that it slows the growth of

cancer along with the growth of muscle. So,I don’t see a clear answer on the horizon just yet but I have to agree that vegans need to quit exaggerating the benefits of a plant based diet and start trying to see where they may be wrong.

JC, I will respectfully disagree. Vegan's lowering blood pressure is like blood letting, you weaken the body and the pressure goes down. Vegans run-down their bodies and everything slows down, including cancer and arteriosclerosis - but it does not heal! If you deprive mice of nutritious food high in protein (see dr. Campbell's research data but not his flawed conclusions), everything slows down, including cancer but they still die more frequently! Chemotherapy can also make you lean, but is it healthy? There is no mystery in it. Thin and lean body will give you penalty points on your life insurance policy!
