SUMMARY.
The principal factor inhibiting the growth of bacteria in the urine from patients receiving the ketogenic diet is l-𝛃-hydroxybutyric acid. The activity of this substance increases in proportion to the acidity of the urine.

Stan, thanks very much for posting this.
Here is the link to the study at pubmed:

Here is the summary from the study:
SUMMARY.
The principal factor inhibiting the growth of bacteria in the urine from patients receiving the ketogenic diet is l-beta-hydroxybutyric acid.
The activity of this substance increases in proportion to the acidity of the urine.
(The "l" in front of beta, in that quote is a squiggly line symbol, not an English "l". I couldn't find it on the chart of the Greek alphabet I checked.)
If the activity of "l"-beta-hydroxybutyric acid increases in proportion to the acidity of the urine, does this give more information about Dr. Kwasniewski's stating in Homo Optimus that the body should be more acidic?
Thank you very much for continuing to post such interesting things on your blog. I have enjoyed and appreciated reading your blog, for years.
